U-fit, based in Boston Place, Holbrooks, which specialises in manufacturing do-it-yourself conservatories, has won a contract to supply its products to Byggeriet – a Norwegian retailer which has more than 100 branches.
Although commonplace in the UK, conservatories are a new to the Scandinavian market, where the majority of homes are made from timber. U-fit’s conservatories – termed ‘vinterhagen’ in Norwegian – will be distributed to Byggeriet customers by Oslo-based firm Kragerø Byggsenter. The company then hopes to expand into other Scandinavian countries with U-fit products next year.
Jag Jandu, U-fit’s export manager who clinched the Norwegian deal, said: “We are very excited at the prospect of breaking into the Scandinavian market. “We already supply our conservatories to clients in a variety of countries including Spain, Crete, Japan and Barbados and are always looking at ways of expanding our reputation globally.”
Chris Rowlands of Kragerø Byggsenter, said U-fit’s conservatory range was being marketed as the Wintergarden collection. He added: “Conservatories are new on the market in Norway but if it catches on we have plans on bringing them to other Scandinavian countries next year.”
U-fit.co.uk was set up 11 years ago by John and Ann Armstrong and has enjoyed phenomenal growth since it was launched. It specialises in manufacturing do-it-yourself conservatories. The couple are well known to millions as stars of BBC2’s cult fly-on-the-wall series The Armstrongs, which gave an insight into the day-to-day running of U-fit.
