Window FAQs
Question
My walls are granite with render over them - therefore the walls are uneven and hard to bolt to. Can I install the whole window using the foam. What would you recommend?

Answer
Expanding foam can be purchased from Wickes ,builder merchants and the like. The whole frame can be foamed in but a gap of about 10mm needs to be left all around the frame (tight sizes minus 20mm). The foam goes off and expands as it does so closing the gap. If you apply to much it is strong enough to bow the window frame which may effect the operation of the openning vents.

You must also pack the frame plumb and square in the brickwork using frame packers (supplied). These can then be cut flush when everything has gone off. Using foam is a popular method with experienced fitters as its quicker than bolting up.

You would then re-render up to the window frame covering the foam, one point though when doing your survey make sure you chip the old render away to find the brick work opening size.
